Composition & Vinification

Silver Tips — Base Leaf. Royal Darjeeling Rajah Grand is made primarily from Silver Tips, the silver-tipped new buds of the tea plant, hand-rolled into the highest-grade tea leaves. The leaf is sourced from a special reserved plot within the Makaibari Tea Estate in the Darjeeling region of West Bengal, India. It carries the grade FTGFOP-1S (Fine Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe No.1 Special).[1]

Fermentation Methodology

The tea is cultivated using biodynamic farming (バイオダイナミック農法) and harvested by hand-picking. After harvest the leaves are hand-rolled and processed (製茶) at the Makaibari Tea Estate. As a special-order product not available on the open market, the finished leaf is air-freighted directly from the estate to Japan.[2]

Appearance. Royal Darjeeling Rajah Grand is described as having a deep, beautiful color.[2]

Nose. The tea shows a rose-like aroma.[1]

Palate. The palate is described as sweet and floral, with a vibrant, multi-layered flavor that unfolds in the mouth.[2]

Provenance & Sourcing

Production. The leaf is sourced from a special limited plantation within the Makaibari Tea Estate in the Darjeeling region of West Bengal, India. Processing (製茶) is carried out at the estate, after which the tea is air-freighted directly to Japan as a special-order product not available on the open market.[2]

Ingredients Policy. Royal Darjeeling Rajah Grand holds Organic JAS certification as a Darjeeling black tea, cultivated using biodynamic farming methods and hand-picked.[1]
