Origins & Story

The brand did not launch under its current name. It was formerly called SOBR and went through a forced name change before rebranding as SHWUNG. The switch came abruptly, shortly before the print deadline, and required new label designs.[1],[2]

Philosophy & What Sets Them Apart

SHWUNG positions itself against dealcoholization: the producer states that wine was not meant to be dealcoholized, and so it did not dealcoholize wine. The range is built from the ground up rather than subtracted from a finished wine.[3]

What They Make

SHWUNG's lineup includes or-anj and spuh-man-tay, both at 0.0% ABV. The names are phonetic renderings of wine terms: or-anj spells out "Orange," and spuh-man-tay spells out "Spumante." SHWUNG describes spuh-man-tay as a crisp sparkling aperitif.[4],[5],[6],[7]

How the drinks are made

According to SHWUNG, each bottle riffs on a classic, reimagined through botanicals, juices, and fermentation. That three-part toolkit — botanical extraction, fruit juice, and fermentation — is the stated basis of the blends rather than the removal of alcohol from wine.[3]

Taste & Serving

or-anj. SHWUNG describes or-anj as mature and spicy, with cedarwood and peppery notes, and as complex and woody. It is presented as made for pairing, with charred fish, grilled shellfish, or punchy Asian dishes recommended.[4],[7]

spuh-man-tay. SHWUNG describes spuh-man-tay as fresh and floral, with fine bubbles, citrus, stone-fruit and rose notes, crisp acidity and a lingering finish. It is suggested with oysters and seafood, or on its own.[6],[8]
