Production Philosophy

Lavender Chai is a sparkling tea produced by Pettersson & Munthe, founded and owned by Caroline Munthe Mossvall and Karin Pettersson. It sits within the company's Sparkling Tea lineup alongside Green Tea Rhubarb and Oolong Bergamot. According to the producer, the beverage brings together the spiced depth of chai with a cool hint of lavender and a warming twist of chili and bergamot. The Sparkling Teas are not fermented; they are built from a combination of hot-brewed and cold-brewed teas, tea extracts, botanical ingredients and natural juices, then pasteurised for shelf stability, which the producer states eliminates the need for preservatives. Pettersson & Munthe selects tea with bold, full-bodied flavor to replicate the tannin sensation found in fine wines, giving the sparkling teas a wine-like character, and works with Sweden's top flavor developers on its beverages.[1]

Composition & Vinification

Per Pettersson & Munthe, Lavender Chai is made with chai tea, green tea, chili, lavender, bergamot, and rhubarb, with grape juice for sweetness.[2]

Chai Tea & Green Tea — Base and Tannin Structure. Chai tea and green tea form the base of the blend. Across the range, Pettersson & Munthe selects tea with bold, full-bodied flavor to replicate a tannin sensation similar to that found in fine wines. The tea also provides the drink's tein content.

Chili — Warming Accent. Chili contributes what the producer describes as a warming twist to the blend.[1]

Lavender — Floral Accent. Lavender adds what Pettersson & Munthe calls a cool hint against the spiced chai depth.[1]

Bergamot — Citrus Accent. Bergamot completes the aromatic frame alongside the chili twist.[2]

Rhubarb — Tart Component. Rhubarb appears both in the ingredient list and among the stated tasting notes.[2]
