Pettersson & Munthe

Pettersson & Munthe is a Swedish sparkling tea producer rooted in Gotland, with all of its production carried out in Skåne. The company traces its beginning to the summer of 2019, when founders Caroline Munthe Mossvall and Karin Pettersson decided to create a non-alcoholic drink.^[1],[2]

Through 2020 the founders worked on recipe development, selection of raw materials, design, and collaborations, developing a non-alcoholic sparkling tea drink set to launch in 2021.^[3]

Pettersson & Munthe was founded and is owned by Caroline Munthe Mossvall and Karin Pettersson.^[4]

The founders' stated vision was to create a drink that delivers the same feeling as popping a bottle of bubbly and tastes good enough that you want another glass. To achieve a wine-like character, Pettersson & Munthe selects teas with bold, full-bodied flavor intended to replicate the tannin sensation found in fine wines.^[1],[5]

The company states it uses only natural ingredients, with no artificial additives, flavor enhancers, or refined sugar.^[6]

All of the drinks are 100% vegan and contain tein from tea. They are offered in two formats: a 75cl champagne bottle and a 25cl slim can.^[2],[7]

Pettersson & Munthe builds its sparkling teas from a combination of hot-brewed and cold-brewed teas, tea extracts, botanical ingredients, and natural juices. The blends are not fermented; instead they are pasteurised for shelf stability, which the producer says eliminates the need for preservatives.^[4]

Pettersson & Munthe states that it collaborates closely with Sweden's top flavor developers to create its beverages.^[2]
